COCHAHUASI WILDLIFE RESCUE VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE
Join the Cochahuasi Wildlife Rescue Volunteer Experience and become part of a meaningful conservation project in Cusco, Peru. This unique volunteer program gives you the opportunity to support rescued wildlife, learn about animal care, and contribute directly to the mission of Cochahuasi Animal Sanctuary.
At Cochahuasi, volunteers do more than just visit. They become part of a team dedicated to the protection, care, and welfare of rescued animals in a natural Andean environment. This experience is ideal for travelers, students, nature lovers, and anyone looking to combine purpose, learning, and real impact.
From your very first day, you will receive an introduction to the sanctuary, a guided orientation tour, and an overview of the animals’ stories, the sanctuary’s conservation mission, and the daily activities where your support can make a real difference.
Throughout the program, volunteers work alongside sanctuary staff and may also share the experience with national and international university students, creating a dynamic and enriching environment of learning, teamwork, and cultural exchange.
Volunteer activities
As a volunteer, you may participate in the following activities, always under staff guidance and according to the sanctuary’s operational needs:
1. Animal feeding support
Learn how to assist with food and water distribution for rescued animals following sanctuary guidelines and staff supervision.
2. Cleaning and habitat maintenance
Help maintain clean and safe spaces by supporting the cleaning of animal areas and related work zones.
3. Environmental cleanup
Participate in the collection of solid waste from the river and surrounding natural areas to help preserve the local ecosystem.
4. Animal enrichment and recreational activities
Support basic enrichment activities designed to stimulate the animals and contribute to their welfare.
5. Visitor education and interpretation
Assist in sharing information about the animals, their rescue stories, and the sanctuary’s conservation mission with visitors.
6. Guided visitor support in English
Use English-language animal history summaries to help orient and inform international guests.
7. Reforestation initiatives
Depending on management approval and operational planning, volunteers may participate in tree planting and habitat restoration activities.
8. Enclosure improvement projects
With prior authorization from sanctuary management, volunteers may support special projects such as the improvement or construction of animal enclosures.

Schedule
The volunteer program is available Monday to Saturday with two shift options:
- Morning shift: 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
- Afternoon shift: 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM
This flexible schedule allows you to choose the time that best fits your travel plans.
